Privacy Policy

Yoink helps you capture recipes and cocktails, keep track of what's in your pantry and
bar, and build shopping lists. This policy explains, in plain language, what happens to your
data when you use the app.
The short version
- No accounts, no ads, no trackers. You don't sign up or log in, and we don't use analytics or advertising SDKs.
- We don't sell your data. Ever.
- Your recipes live in your own iCloud. Your saved recipes, pantry/bar, and shopping lists are stored on your device and synced through your private iCloud. We can't see them.
- Imported content is processed, not stored by us. When you import a recipe, the content you give us is sent to be turned into a structured recipe and is not kept on our server.
What stays on your device (and your iCloud)
- Your library — saved recipes, pantry and bar items, and shopping lists — is stored on your device and synced via Apple's iCloud (CloudKit) to your other devices. This data lives in your private iCloud database; only you can access it, and we have no ability to read it.
- On-device processing — reading text in screenshots and receipts (OCR) and transcribing audio from recordings you import happens on your device.
What is sent off your device, and when
Yoink only sends data off your device when you ask it to import a recipe (by sharing a post, pasting text or a link, adding a screenshot, or scanning a receipt). When you do, the content you provide is sent over a secure connection to our processing service so it can be turned into a structured recipe:
- Our processing service (hosted on Amazon Web Services) forwards the content to Anthropic's Claude AI, which extracts the recipe. Anthropic processes the content under its API terms and does not use it to train its models.
- For Instagram links, the link is sent to a scraping service (Apify) to retrieve the post's caption and image.
- For TikTok links, we use TikTok's public oEmbed endpoint.
- For other recipe websites, the page is fetched so its recipe can be read.
Our processing service does not store this content — it is processed in transit and discarded. It is not linked to your name, an account, or an advertising identifier (there are none).
What we don't do
- No user accounts or sign-in.
- No analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking.
- No selling or sharing of personal data for marketing.
Permissions Yoink may ask for
Each permission is used only for the stated purpose, and only when you start the action yourself:
- Camera — to scan grocery and liquor receipts.
- Photo Library — to import screenshots, photos, or recordings you choose.
- Speech Recognition — to transcribe the audio in recordings you import (done on your device).
Data retention
- On your device / iCloud: kept until you delete it — remove a recipe or item, or delete the app. iCloud data is governed by your Apple account settings.
- Our processing service: not stored.
- Third-party services: retained according to their own policies (linked below).

Yoink is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
